An Introduction to Ked

Thank you for visiting my blog posts for Indian Epics. I am really excited about this class and think it will help me to develop even more stories to film in the future.

My name is Sean P Wise.  I'm the creative director of Black Cloud Motion Pictures. This past year I have been focusing on building scripts that will excite the mind. We placed in the top 20% of the Nichols Fellowship that is sponsored by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences with #TheWorldIsRound. We place in the top 25 percent of Page International Screenwriting Competition with both #UnknownCaller and #AndThenThereWasOne . Currently I am submitting #PookasPassages to Sundance Episodic Lab and #BrokenBrotherhood to OutFest. Also we are finishing up our short film Deviance to submit to Cannes.

I am a gay man. I am 37 years old. I am an activist. I have worked to bring equal rights to the LBGT community because I have seen the demon underside of religious zealots. I have been on the side of the road outside the Oklahoma Capitol building holding signs in support of equal rights. I have stood on the side of the road in Reno in opposition to Prop 8. I have stood before the San Antonio city council and city members to proclaim the need for a Non Discrimination Ordinance. You don’t really understand evil until a friend of yours gets beaten so bad that he has to have his mouth wired shut for months by religious zealots proclaiming his doom in hell.

My wedding is next week. I am marrying the love of my life and my best friend Randy Bartels. We are taking a cruise that will be departing from Galveston! We will be stopping in Cozumel and touring Coba Temple. I am fascinated with history so this is right up my ally.  One of the people asked if I got sea sick while on the ship.  Funny story, one of the stabilizers went out on the return trip so the ship was going everywhere.  They were cleaning up puke left and right.  However I was able to keep my dinner down, just barely.

I'm the newsletter editor and member of San Antonio Film Council. Being the editor I have gotten to interview some of the most amazing people including Lucy Mukerjee Brown, Gray Frederickson and Hal Sparks! I'm a member of the Texas Motion Picture Alliance. I am the chairman of San Antonio QFest International Film Festival

One person asked did I have any suggestions for people starting out in the film industry.  First: it's not who you know, it's who knows you.  Second, as Grey Frederickson said, Never Give Up.  Third: as Hal Sparks said, there is no version of this that is successful if you don't go where the jobs are.  Move to Hollywood or LA.  Work as a PA.  Get a foot in the door.

So I'm busy, but I want to finish my bachelors. That is my goal. I have 163 credit hours and only an associates to show for it. I have come back to OU because I can receive a degree in less hours going to school here online. I am currently with the planned curriculum group and my major is Human Learning and Development. This has helped me to build exciting and believable characters in my storylines.

This is a fun little video we did from Deviance.  Steven is a card and a half!

Thank you,
Sean P Wise

  1. Oh my gosh, Sean, congratulations are indeed in order!!! What a wonderful way to begin this new year: I hope you and Randy will have an amazing time, and now I can appreciate the special pleasure of the cruise departing from Galveston. And thanks to all the great efforts by activists in Norman and everywhere, I have seen some changes in Oklahoma that I never expected to see (I first started teaching at OU in 1999)... hopefully the momentum will just keep on building and building because there is still so much more to be done. I am really excited that the online course option can help you to get that degree, and I think this class could be both useful and exciting for you! There is much struggle going on in India for women's rights, for gay rights, for the rights of ethnic and religious minorities of all kinds... and a lot of those activists turn to the stories of the past for inspiration. Do you know about hijras of India? They take their identity from an ancient Ramayana legend: Wikipedia: Hijra and Hijras in the Ramayana. So, I'm sure you can use this class as a way to look at these questions in a south Asia context, and that will broaden the horizons of the class for everyone!
... and should I call you Sean or Ked? Either way works for me! Let me know what you prefer.

    1. I'm just Sean. Ked is a handle I have had for years, actually since I started at OU. the full handle is kedezzericou which I have with yahoo. so it has history, but my name is Sean. This post I posted for those that follow my google+ account, kedezzeric.

I actually don't know about the hijras of India. I know very little about eastern mythology which is why I was really interested in your class. Greek mythology I used to study in depth. I'll check those out when I get some spare time!

  2. Hello Sean, my name is Eaton. I was one of the other people in your group for the 1st week. You did a great job communicating all of the areas in which you are passionate. Congratulations on your upcoming marriage and I hope that your trip goes well. I noticed mentioned coming back to OU. Were you always studying towards the same major, if not what were some of your other interests?

    1. Eaton,

Thanks for checking out my blog! The wedding was amazing but the trip itself, well let's say I won't be taking a cruise again!

Actually I was originally a music education major. I ended up failing theory (just didn't understand all of it) so I switched to physical therapy which I always loved. Didn't do so hot in the second year sciences so switched to psychology then just didn't have the money to finish and didn't understand the loan system so went into the workforce.

In 2005 I decided to go to film school which was awesome! Loved OCCC. Got an associates there in film but everyone wants a bachelors to even look at you. So now I am going back and a planned curriculum student for a BA in Human Learning and Development.

And I love disc golf, board games, card games, Magic the Gathering!!!!

  3. Sean, its nice to meet you. I am an engineer so I am in this class more for a fun way to finish up my senior year. I hope your wedding and honeymoon are a blast! That is awesome that you have had the privilege to meet such big names. That must have been a lot of fun. Good luck in the remainder of your studies!

  4. Sean,

It is awesome that you are finding the time to finish your bachelors! It must be difficult with you being so busy! I have been on a cruise from Galveston that stopped in Cozumel! I hope your trip was fun. Did you get sea sick? I am really impressed with your success in film. My roommate is hoping to do something in film. She is currently majoring in Film and Media Studies. Do you have any suggestions for her to get started?

  5. Hi Sean! It is awesome that you are already a creative director at Black Cloud Motion Pictures but you also have aspirations to come back to The University of Oklahoma to get your degree as well. It is also amazing that you have met so many famous people in your life. I don’t think I have ever met a celebrity.

  6. Hello Sean, it's nice to meet you. You sound very busy! It's great to hear that you already have a career going for you in the film industry and you are still deciding to come back and finish up your bachelors. Keep up the good work with your film making and congratulations on the wedding. I hope you both have a great life together.

  7. Sean,

Of all the people I have seen in this class so far, you are easily one of the most accomplished. Congrats on already having a long and successful career. My little sister is also very interested in film making, I will have to direct her to some of your work. Finally, congratulations on your upcoming marriage. I look forward to seeing more of your work, you clearly have a very creative mind.

  8. Hello, Sean. Thank you for providing a little info about yourself. I always admire people who have a skill that they have crafted over many years. Film-making is an art form that I literally know nothing about and cannot imagine how much work it takes. It is pretty cool to see that you have accomplished so much! It must feel great to work so hard at something and receive such impressive accolades. Keep up the great work!

  9. Hi, Sean! It’s so nice to meet you.

It’s really exciting that you work for a motion picture company! I think that would be such exciting and creative work. I would love to take a look at some of the work you’ve done previously.

It really makes my soul sad to hear about your friend. It absolutely breaks my heart to know that people who profess to know God (assuming they called themselves Christian) could do such a horrible thing. I love Jesus, and part of that is loving others like he did—not spewing hate and demonizing those who believe differently. I want to give you my sincerest congratulations on your marriage! Love wins!

I wish you the best of luck finishing your bachelors! I really enjoyed reading your introduction.

  10. Hi Sean! It is a pleasure to get to read your introduction because you have such an outstanding story. I highly respect your activism in LBGT rights. I work for the diversity department on campus called University Community. We work closely with the LBGTQ group here on campus as well as other under represented groups. Congratulations on you marriage! That will be an amazing cruise! My sister has worked on cruise ships as a dancer for the past two years and she loves it! She also visited Cozumel and said it was lovely. Good luck with your movie entries! I hope they are all very successful.

  11. Hi Sean!
Congrats on getting married! Congrats on finishing your degree. I am also a non traditional student. I have a large amount of credits also. I wish I could go to school forever sometimes, and other times I say I am ready for all the homework to end.
I just read one of your stories and it was really great. I look forward to reading more of your stories this semester.

  12. Hey Sean,

It was a joy reading your storybook intro last week, so I thought I'd come back for more. Congratulations on finding the love of your life, really uplifting stuff.

I myself am a film minor, and I think we are also in a screenwriting class together this semester. I'm looking forward to reading your script in the workshops (although I do not know which one it will be). My script is A1, just FYI.
But, if you'll excuse me, I can't wait to read your latest storytelling post!

  13. HI Sean,

I like your interest in film! You are the first person I met that is a film director! I am extremely interested in seeing more of the things that you film. I also admire your passion for the equal rights movement. It is extremely noticeable that you have a passion for fighting for the things that you love and enjoy from life. Congratulations on your marriage!

  14. Hello Sean,
Congratulations!!! I hope you had a wonderful and amazing time. I hope you had fun in cruise from Galveston. I wish you all the best for your degree and hope you do well. It is a must to have a degree in the world we live today. I hope you are doing great with your project with Black cloud motion pictures. Good luck!

  15. Hey Sean! It sounds like you have quite a future in film ahead of you! This is probably a great class for you to be able to get new ideas and material for filming – though it appears that you’ve already done quite a bit so far! I think it’s great that we have passionate people like you to protest for rights! I find myself way too busy with school to get into anything political.
